Fever is the most common complaint in children and is the major cause of distress to most parents. However, fever can be a symptom of a mild infection or a life-threatening disease. Fever is when the body temperature rises above 99.5 F or 37.7 degrees celsius in the axillary area. It is an important sign of infection. Though most fevers are viral in origin and may subside in 3-4 days with paracetamol some causes of fever may require further medications to treat it adequately. Consult your pediatrician if fever is high i.e. more than 100.3 F. other serious issues like dehydration, difficulty in breathing, drowsiness, or refusal to feed. In babies less than 6 months even mild fever requires medical attention.

Why should I visit a pediatrician? Why should I visit a
pediatrician?

It is important to consult your pediatrician to avoid excessive use of antibiotics and unnecessary medications at the same time to get the correct diagnosis for the disease. Also, counseling on the care of the sick infant is important as most children have decreased appetite and are at the risk of dehydration due to accompanying problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, etc. Correct guidance leads to earlier recovery and lesser sick days.

Newborn Care And Well Baby Clinic

Newborns need extra care from birth especially till 6 months of age. This can be a challenging task for all parents. This journey is made easier with the help of a pediatrician to guide new parents for better growth and the general wellbeing of their baby.

Why should I visit my
pediatrician after 6 months?

Exclusive breastfeeding is advised for all babies till 6 months of age. However, after 6 months complementary feeding or introduction of age-appropriate foods in addition to breast milk is essential to prevent iron deficiency anemia and short stature. Iron deficiency is proven to cause irreversible mental and physical damage and poor learning performance in school in older children. Delayed or inappropriate feeding after 6 months makes babies prone to infections, decreases long-term immunity, increases chances of food fussiness and deficiency of various nutrients. At our clinic, individualized dietary counseling is given at every visit during the first year of life and beyond.

The most common causes are in our environment like dust, pollution, pollen and in foods like peanuts, egg, milk etc. Allergy is an inherent abnormal response of the immune system which some people develop on exposure to specific harmless substances. Allergies may run in families and children whose parent/s suffer from allergies, are more prone to being allergic to one or more allergens. Diet Counseling

Every parent wants their child to be healthy and the foundation for a healthy child is a good wholesome diet. As the first few years are a period of rapid physical and mental growth, diet from birth plays a crucial role in the overall well-being of a child. Any diet contains both micronutrients and macronutrients that help in muscle building, energy generation for daily activities and bone growth and micronutrients that play a key role in maintaining the proper functioning of each and every system, building immunity and also in brain development. Every child should have a balanced diet with the correct proportion of macro and micronutrients for better growth and functioning.

Vaccination / Immunization

Vaccination is the process of introducing a weakened or killed virus or bacteria in the body to activate the immune system to produce antibodies to fight the disease-causing organisms. Vaccination is a simple safe and effective way of protecting your child against harmful diseases before they come in contact with the harmful disease-causing agents. It uses your body's natural defenses to build resistance to certain infections and makes your immune system stronger. Vaccines train your immune system to create antibodies just as it does when exposed to the disease. However, because vaccines contain only killed or weakened forms of the bacteria or virus they do not cause disease or put your child at risk of complications.
